yellow warning - rainfall - in effect

发布日期:2026-03-12T02:52+00:00

Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.Significant rainfall is expected after a period of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain.Locations: the southwest coast of Newfoundland.Total rainfall: 20 to 50 mm, with possibly higher amounts locally.Time span: Thursday morning until overnight Thursday night.Remarks: A strong low pressure system is expected to bring significant rainfall to the southwest coast. Precipitation will begin as snow then transition to a brief period of ice pellets and freezing rain tonight, before changing to rain by Thursday morning. Rainfall rates of up to 5 mm per hour may occur over some locations.Significant runoff is likely due to snowpack and frozen ground conditions. Localized flooding in low lying areas may occur where water cannot be absorbed by the ground or cannot properly drain. Additionally, streams and rivers may run significantly higher than normal due to the increased runoff.###Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas.Rainfall warnings are issued when significant impacts are expected due to rainfall amounts. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
