At 1225 PM EDT, gauge reports indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Gauges reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... New Bedford, Fall River, Dartmouth, Marion, Wareham, Fairhaven, Acushnet, Freetown, Mattapoisett and Rochester.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. * WHEN...From 5 AM EDT early this morning through this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Showers and a few embedded thunderstorms with localized narrow bands of torrential rainfall overspread the region this morning. Widespread rainfall amounts of 0.50 to 2 inches are expected. However...localized narrow bands of 2-4" of rain are possible within a 3 hour period. While it remains uncertain if these narrow bands of heavier rain occur...the potential exists for localized flash flooding...especially if it were to occur over a vulnerable urban center. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
